Start Description:

I drift down sleep's familiar pathways, until the Wood comes clear before me with its grasping trees and shadow-fringed paths. But this is not the Wood I know. It is all birch trees, white as moonlight, and the moonlight is black as ink. Beneath its pressure, the white skins of the trees begin to blister, then bleed. I break into a trot, then a gallop. I must reach the Well, before I wake, or before something worse -

Вокруг одни белые, точно лунный свет, берёзы — а сам лунный свет чернее самых чёрных чернил. Под его давлением белая кожа деревьев вздувается волдырями и начинает сочиться кровью.
