- In the deepest cellar of the Nationaltheater stands a stern image carved of Black Forest oak. Sixty years ago the Swan King staged a grandiose première of his favourite composer's new opera. It didn't go well. The stage-trappings were banished down here and forgotten. Now the image's eye has been scarred out to make him blind, and those who know of the place's power perform their harsh devotions before it.
- В самом глубоком подвале Национального театра стоит суровая статуя, вырезанная из дуба из Шварцвальда. Шестьдесят лет назад «сказочный король» устроил грандиозную премьеру новой оперы своего любимого композитора. Приняли её прохладно. Декорации были спрятаны сюда и забыты. Теперь глаз статуи изрезан, чтобы окончательно ослепить её. Те, кто знает о силе этого места, совершает перед скульптурой свои суровые служения.
